Psoriasis can be a serious skin problem

Acne, dryness, freckles, large pores, scars – we all have our skin issues that we deal with on a daily basis.

For some, skin problems are a medical condition, requiring a physician’s diagnosis and individualized treatment.

Psoriasis is a skin condition that has a genetic component. A person may carry the genes for many years and develop psoriasis at any age. Many people report experiencing a skin injury, going through a stressful period in life, or having strep throat as triggers that led them to develop the condition. Nearly 7.5 million people in the United States have psoriasis.

People with psoriasis develop lesions on the skin, caused by skin cells that grow too rapidly. When the body doesn’t shed the excess cells, they pile up on the surface of the skin, creating raised areas that appear red, white or silver – often on the scalp, elbows, lower back or knees. They may also see a change in their fingernails or toenails.

It’s important to note that psoriasis is not contagious, but it does require medical attention.

Flare-ups can occur often or rarely. When they do occur, dermatologists advise soothing baths with oatmeal or Epsom salts in warm water; frequent moisturizing; applying a cold compress or anti-itch cream to the affected areas; mild sun exposure; and wearing cotton clothing.

At BodyVerde, we hear from individuals around the country who suffer from many different skin problems. We don’t claim to be able to help everyone, and certainly there are some skin problems that benefit from both traditional medical remedies and natural skin treatments. We originally created our Fresh Skin Rx as an eczema skin cream, to minimize the use of steroid creams. We were pleased to find that it helped people relieve the symptoms of psoriasis too.
